Easy Mermaid Birthday Party Idea

This weekend we celebrated my daughter turning 4! I wanted to share an easy mermaid birthday party idea with you all, and the details that went into it.

Birthdays used to be something I dreaded. Not because I don’t love them, but because I swear I’m the worst party planner! My mom has always thrown extravagant, detail-oriented parties and I wish I could be on her level. I really am trying to turn this around and be the kind of mom that I have for our family. If you are also someone who struggles with planning parties, this is the post for you!

First things first, you need a party theme.

Does your little one love mermaids? Then you came to the right post, for an easy mermaid birthday party idea.

My daughter loves a lot of things, so I threw out ideas, and this one stuck! So, the planning began.

I first had to think about the space of the party. We were holding it in our home, so I had to think of the rooms we would be using. Since the weather is nice, we primarily held the party outside for eating, and inside for gifts and cake.

This meant I had a few areas to decorate, which gave me an idea of how many decorations I needed! I luckily had a mermaid birthday shower and kept a lot of that decor, so I was able to incorporate many of those items.

Mermaid Party Decorations

I knew I for sure wanted a balloon arch, and I found this one off Amazon. It came with a balloon arch and a backdrop. It could not have been more perfect!

I found a party decor set that included plates, silverware, cups, napkins, two garlands (one pictured above), party favor bags and items, two packs of balloons, and a pack of mermaid balloons (as shown above on the ground). It was seriously such a score for what I paid!! It was an insane deal and fit perfectly for our theme!

Lastly, I kept activities simple and just bought a new splash pad to play in while we were outside! It was a lot of fun for the kids to play in while the hubby was on grill duty. Let’s move into the food!

Dinner and Dessert

This part will be dependent on where you are having your party, for how many people, and what kind of food you want to serve. Since the weather is nice, we knew we wanted to break out the grill. We went with hamburgers and hotdogs, and sides like chips, fruit, and potato salad.

I found a local lady who made cakes and I had my first ever custom cake made! I wasn’t kidding when I said I’m such a newbie to party planning. I gave her an inspiration photo, and she worked some serious magic. I also ordered macarons because we love them and they were delicious.

The chocolate cake was probably my favorite part! 😍 It was a showstopper and looked great as the “centerpiece” on her gift table. I also had ordered macarons which were strawberry cheesecake and I feel they paired nicely!

Birthday Gift Ideas

If you are scrambling to plan a party, chances are you might need help gift shopping too! Here are a few items that she received, that also went along with her current phase of being mermaid obsessed.

We had such a wonderful time, and I love the way her party turned out! It was such a special time and she has been talking about it since. I would love for you to save this to Pinterest!
