After becoming a stay at home mom, I was so excited to be with her all day everyday. I knew it was going to be round the clock work, but I was so anxious to get to spend this time with her.

As months went by, and as her milestones became more prevalent, I started researching ideas for us to have fun. Not only do they help pass the time (man can your days get repetitive being home all day everyday!) But they also help your baby grow more developmentally!

1. Read Books

This is probably my most favorite because I know the kind of impact reading can have on young minds. When I was first pregnant with her I thought how I didn’t want her to have a lot of toys (whoops, thanks target) but to have a mini library. I try to read at least one book of day, but aim for two. She loves looking at the pages and gets fully engaged. This is great for just daytime reading, but a book at night can help your little one unwind.

2. Water Play

Sav is a little mermaid when it comes to water. She loves bath time and could spend an hour just kicking around. We don’t always have time for a bath, so fill a cookie sheet with water and some bath toys, lids, or plastic containers. Have your little one do tummy time on a boppy or sit up, and let them play! I recommend putting a towel underneath because it’ll most likely get a little messy.

3. Painting

This has probably been our favorite! I filmed a video on how to do this for your little one and I highly recommend. Be careful though, because you’ll probably want to frame every single one your baby makes!

4. Breastmilk Popsicles

Not the typical activity, but it does help with their hand eye coordination. It’s also great as you are probably going to be introducing foods soon! I love these from Boon, you can add your breastmilk (and foods later on) and then freeze them. It’s a silicone top that has holes in it so that the liquids will come through. She loves them and it’s been amazing seeing her grow and have more control!

5. Ribbons

Ribbons are another fun game you can play with your baby. Tie ribbons onto a wooden dowel, or on any arch you have, and let your baby play! Sav loves all the colors and reaching for things, so this is a really fun and cheap activity they can do.

6. Blocks

You can make your own or buy some blocks! This is a great way to introduce textures to your baby.

7. Tissue Paper!

This may be her personal favorite. She has an absolute hay day at doctor’s offices because of the paper on the exam tables. I quickly caught on that she loves that sound and found a way to do it at home! I had sheets of tissue paper that I laid down and she kicked and also grabbed to bunch it up. It was so much fun to see her so excited haha!

There are a million and one other ideas for sensory play activities, but these are our favorites.
