A Day in Downtown Denver

This past week my mother-in-law visited us and we had so much fun together! On Saturday we all went to hang out in downtown Denver, with my sister-in-law Rachel. We first went to a consignment store, which happened to be in an area James and I had already been to with his friends. It was kind of funny when we pulled up, because I was thinking hey, I wanted to check out that store! haha Around the corner was the pizza place we had ate at with his friends, so we all decided since we were starving to just go there. The consignment store is called Plum Consignment, and the pizza place is Mici Handcrafted Italian.

After eating, we had a heck of a time getting to downtown thanks to some construction and two accidents in one block. (at opposite ends of the block… Y’all be careful when you drive!) We finally make it to downtown and go into a Japanese market called Pacific Mercantile Company and I picked up some fun Japanese candy. Rachel spent some time in Japan so she is a lot more knowledgeable and daring with trying all the foods and drinks they had haha. If you want to go to a cool store, that is definitely one I would recommend!

We parked the car on the main drag and walked around a little bit. This shop shown above and below is called Hazel & Dewey and it was the most adorable kitchen store I’ve ever seen. Their overall aesthetic was so calm and interesting, and they had some unique pieces. It was more pricey for my taste, but I had fun looking at all the items they had.

Rachel, her husband Scott, and I all went out shopping while James was at drill and we didn’t realize this was the same area we had been in. We walked into a store called Sewn, and I’m still so obsessed with this store. They take regular pieces and kind of recreate them, or add something onto it. It is a lot of handmade looking clothing, jewelry, and furniture so if that is your style I’d suggest this store! Sewn also comes with the presence of two adorable dogs that you’ll either have to walk around or be greeted at the door by one. The items here are pretty reasonably priced, especially for the amount of effort and care they put into it.

James and Rachel went over to a tattoo shop to meet with one of the artists so Summer and I walked down to the ice cream shop, because boy it was hot that day! The ice cream shop, called Sweet Action Ice cream, smelled so good and it had the giant garage door-like window open so people could sit on the bar and look out onto the street. this place was pretty poppin’, because like I said it was so hot, but they got through the line so quickly. Also, they offer samples which I appreciate because I’d never heard of half of the flavors haha (they have a cherry jalepeno…) Summer got the raspberry sorbet cone and I got a cup of mocha swirl almond. 

Following our delicious ice cream endeavor, we walked across the street to Buffalo Exchange. I came here last time with Rachel and Scott so I was very excited to go back! I found a cute striped swimsuit type thing that ended up not fitting, and then Rachel and Jim met up with us. Buffalo Exchange is a consignment store, and is more hipster, retro, or just overall cool pieces. They have a ton of clothes but it doesn’t feel cluttered like some clothing stores do. their prices are about normal and what I would expect for the brands they carry. Rachel found a few cute things and I fell in love with this little set up at the front of the store. James refused to take a picture in the chairs, but thank goodness his mom is the sweetest and in turn I got the cutest picture of her!

and afterwards, we ate at Pappadeaux and were completely worn out for the day. I had so much fun with our family and by the time this goes up, we will already be in Utah.
