Preparing For General Conference

The weekend is finally upon us! I am so excited to tune in to General Conference this weekend. For those who don’t know, general conference happens twice a year, in April and then October. The conference is talks given by church leaders (including our living prophet Thomas S. Monson!!). The conference is held in Salt Lake City and James + I attended this last April. When I went, I wasn’t Mormon or really interested in joining. I more so went to see how it was and it was a great way to learn more. Even though I went in person, I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I would now. Even though we won’t be there in person watching, we will be tuning in online! I have been just reading and pinteresting away at different ideas to prepare for conference and make it have a more lasting impression on us. So, here are a few of my ideas!

Write it down. Hear something you want to remember? Write it down. Last weekend was the women’s conference and I brought a small journal with me. I wrote down what I thought were important thoughts, lessons, and the names of those who spoke. I have a pretty cruddy memory, so for me this is not only to help me remember a few months from now, but also for the weeks to come. One perk of watching online, is you will have more time to write down everything easier.

Make it cozy! If you are watching from home, get comfy! Slip on some yoga pants, grab a blanket (or two!) and make your environment comfortable. This isn’t to get lazy, but to make it so you are more focused on the talks then focusing on shifting your legs and being in uncomfortable clothes.
Pray. Probably the easiest tip out of all of these; pray! Pray you will find answers, pray and thank God that we have general conference, heck pray thanking God for all that he has done. Praying keeps your relationship with God strong as well as invites him into your life more + who doesn’t want that?

Make a list of questions. Write down a list of questions or things you need a little extra in your life. For example, say you are struggling with your religion, you would write down how can I grow stronger in my faith? How can I keep my faith? This would be a common thing that would be addressed in the talks and hopefully your questions will be answered! I am looking forward to the talks about family and patience, things that are most important to me or what I need to improve on.

Make some yummy snacks! I think everyone enjoys a nice plate of cookies, but you can even go grab some fruits and other snacks you and your family enjoy. Having snacks helps not only cure your growling belly, but having something you can just reach and munch on allows you to focus more on conference! This also can help keep your little ones still and quiet (which I can imagine would be a dream come true) or keep your husband happy and more willing to sit still and allow their focus to be on the conference.

Plan activities for the kids. This kind of goes with the last tip, but having some sort of activity for the little ones to keep them busy is awesome! There are a ton of print offs you can find online, from crosswords, to unscramble words, to coloring pages. These are great ideas to keep your kids busy, but still have it centered on conference. Here are a few coloring pages I found on Pinterest.

And that’s all folks! I know this is going up late but hopefully it will still help you in time! I hope you have a wonderful conference weekend and try out a few of these tips! Thanks for reading + God Bless!
