Work from Home- Without Growing Your Own Social Media!

Working from Home used to be a pipe dream, but in more recent years it has become more mainstream. Working from Home comes in a variety of forms, so for clarity I will be focusing on this topic in the world of social media. I have worked from home for the past 6 years and this is a topic I love researching and helping others explore.

When it comes to working from home in social media, it is a common assumption that you have to have 100k> followers or be in direct sales. There is so much growth in this space, and you absolutely do not have to have a high number count or even be involved in selling physical products! Virtual Assistant is a career on the rise, and I wanted to create this post to really dive into this topic.

What is a virtual assistant? A VA is typically self-employed and offers administrative, creative (social media, photography), or technical assistance to an individual or company.

Virtual Assistant is a great route to take if you are self-motivated, want a little more flexibility to your schedule, and want to be in control of your job/income! It can feel intimidating to take on your first client. BUT, I recommend going in confident and knowing you have to start somewhere!! Don’t overwhelm yourself with services you may not feel most confident in. What is something you feel you can offer to a client?

Maybe it is:

• providing graphics for your client
• responding to their inbox messages
• e-mail templates or creating e-mail newsletters
• managing their paid advertising (Google or Facebook)
• managing their work schedule
• calling clients for them
• build website
• create logo
• data entry

The list goes on and on! I guarantee you there are tasks you are great in and can offer someone who is looking for you.

So how do you FIND these jobs? The sky is the limit! I got my first ever VA job by posting to my Instagram story that I was considering offering services and I got a DM hiring me on the spot LOL!

Upwork.com is a great site, as well as indeed.com (putting location as remote). There are also virtual assistant Facebook groups with jobs posted, and you can also do your own networking!! Similar to my blogging/social media influencing tips, you can put yourself out there and share that you are offering xx!

Knowing how much to charge is another discussion piece, and will really depend on what you feel your work is worth. Some individuals charge $14/hour, some charge $150. Others also offer their services in different packages which can range from $100/month to $3,000/month (these are just examples for a ballpark). With Virtual Assistant work, you can take on several clients (depending on your workload availability) which can start adding up your income very quickly!

My best advice is to get in the goal mindset. If you are doing this part-time, set a goal income amount you are wanting to reach. If you are wanting this to be a full-time career, calculate your living expenses and how many clients you would need to take on to make that happen.

If you love this space, but if you are feeling a little nervous to dive in, I highly recommend becoming a student. Take a few hours out of your week to listen to podcasts or youtube videos in the areas you are wanting to work in to learn the tricks of the trade. There are a lot of great resources out there! Also, Google offers multiple classes in their Digital Garage. The benefit of taking courses like these, are you can earn a certificate of completion and add this to your resume! So, even if you are newer to the industry, you have some education and training to back you up.

So yes, it is possible to work from home outside of growing a blog or social media platform! However, I would still recommend utilizing social media to a degree of connecting and promoting your services. It wouldn’t hurt to drive traffic to yourself, right?
