It’s 7 am, I’m wearing yesterday’s t shirt and leggings, and my night stand is littered with empty bottles. I am a mom who just spent several hours of the night awake, feeding and consoling a baby.
This is how life goes in this season. Some days I feel like a super mom because not only did I keep the kid alive and fed, but I also managed to do laundry and dishes. Then there are days where I feel like I haven’t done enough. I need to get outside more, I need to clean more, I need to read to her more, I need to have her do more tummy time, I need to do more. But then I hit the pause button and think: I am doing enough.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Proverbs 31:28-29
I think as Moms it’s in our nature to be expert multitaskers. Sometimes though, we just need to slow down and enjoy this moment. I may be an okay mom, but I am an okay mom that gets to spend every second with my sweet baby who loves me with every fiber of her being. I am an okay mom who gets the honor of hearing her call out “mama” when she’s hungry or needs held, because she knows mama is there and will comfort her.
I often find myself ready to go on to the next thing and fill my plate as much as possible. But you know what? I am exactly where I need to be in this moment. She needs me and I know in her world, I’m the greatest “okay” mom that exists.
This post isn’t for pity or back pats, but it’s for you moms who may be feeling the same. We don’t have to have our house together to be great, our children aren’t going to remember the mess. They are going to remember us picking them up when they are sad and tickling them all day long.
God gave me the best calling in the world, and I feel so blessed to be a mother. When I was struggling with getting pregnant, I shared a quote that really stuck with me this entire journey.
Motherhood is not a hobby, it’s a calling. It’s not something to do if you can squeeze the time in, it’s what God gave you time for.

My first kid I experienced a lot of mom guilt by society standard me giving her puffy Cheetos when she was teething was so wrong, dirty cloths from playing in dirt, and my house was never clean enough. Then one day I woke up and realized she was happy, she was healthy, that is all that matters. “So if I’m considered an okay mom by todays society that’s filled with organic diapers and picture perfect houses, then I’m the best dang okay mom there is.” You said it perfectly!
