So since I last blogged, a lot has happened! We were finally able to pick up our darling cocker spaniel puppy, Pepper! We are over the moon excited and things have been going great so far. When we picked her up, she pretty much immediately fell asleep in my lap haha. We took her to Petsmart to get her first toy and a few other essentials. We went straight to the toy section and found about a thousand to choose from so we just set a few of our favorites in the cart with her and let her choose. Low and behold, she fell in love with a duck squeaky toy that James picked out. I had originally wanted to find a dog bed at Ross because they are so cheap, but then James spotted the deal of all deals! There were dog beds 50% off with my Rewards account which made it well worth it to buy from here versus Ross. We also picked up a little red collar, puppy treats, and some training pads- just in case. Just an update: we replaced her first collar and got her a more festive one that has a bell on it. SUCH a great investment because puppies are little sneaky things haha.
I seriously have never been so satisfied with Petsmart in my life! The employee at the front was awesome and told us about this neat little booklet called the Puppy Starter Kit. At first, I was thinking oh great another push for a stupid unneeded thing. But, she went through the book with us and there were so many coupons in it, it ended up being well worth it. The book itself is $20, but with all of the coupons it saves you about $200+ in the end. As a new puppy owner, that was music to my ears!
As we were leaving Petsmart, we thought it’d be a good idea to try and get her to potty before we continued heading to his parent’s house. James set Pepper in the grass and I’m not kidding you, the second he did she immediately squatted and went to the bathroom. Did we not get the easiest puppy in the world or what?! Last night, we took turns taking her outside every 2-3 hours and she went every time. We plan as she gets older and can hold it longer to train her using a bell. I believe I found this trick on Pinterest, but I’m sure you can just google it. Every time you take your puppy out to potty you ring the bell (placed by the door) and say “okay, let’s go potty!” The goal is for them to eventually ring it on their own and not need to come get you if they need to go outside. I will definitely do updates when we start doing that, which will be when we move (which oh my word is in 4 days…). Anyways, enjoy some pictures of our little Pepper + my amazing finds from Petsmart. I seriously love this store and even found a few deals you guys can snag as well! Above, are the training pads we purchased and they were buy one get on half off! It’s nice to have these just in case, especially with us moving!
This bed costs us about ten bucks and she is so in love with it. She slept in it the whole car ride home + last night. She loves the sides because she could kind of dig in and snuggle her head down. I also love it because she will be a medium size dog and there is plenty of room for her to grow in to it! Also, this toy is like her best friend. I don’t see it lasting more than a year!
This is such a quality brand dog food! I have become very picky on what my pets eat, due to recent news of sicknesses with other brands. The main thing I look for though, is that there is actual meat in it + that there is no CORN. Pets can’t digest corn and it is not really good for them. Yet, so many brands include corn (sometimes the main ingredient) as a way to be cheap and supplement the good stuff. I advise y’all to look at the ingredients, because this is your puppy’s food and you wouldn’t want to be eating crap food either. This is just one of the things I don’t mind throwing a few more dollars out for. Below, I have for you all nice coupon deals you can use on dog foods, woohoo! *Also, if you buy the Puppy Starter Kit, you get this entire bag for free, can I get a huge cheer for awesome coupons?*
Now, here are some adorable pictures of Pepper!
Thank you all for reading + putting up with the many pictures of my puppy! I hope you all have a great week and if you are a new puppy owner or new dog owner, definitely check out Petsmart soon! I believe next week is when they begin their sale so head on over there. 🙂
