Yesterday, on my birthday, I shared some big news. We are expecting our second baby!

This has been such a big secret to keep, and with my growing bump we realized it might be time to let the world know. As I’m writing this, I am 12 weeks and 3 days along. Let me tell you, this pregnancy has been so different from the first!

How we found out I was pregnant

We were sitting down watching TV when I decided to open up my period tracker app. I had felt kind of meh all day and didn’t have a huge appetite, but thought it was just something I ate. When I opened it up, I found out I was a WEEK late! I had been tracking my period the past few months since we started “trying but not trying” and it only varied a day or two.

I told my husband “don’t freak out, but I was supposed to have my period a week ago…”. We didn’t give it much thought, because we have been down this path before and I hate that feeling of disappointment and negative pregnancy tests.

For some reason, I just couldn’t shake the thought. Maybe just maybe I could be? We went to bed and the next morning I just had the feeling to test. I thought to myself “okay if there’s a pregnancy test in here I’ll test, if not I’ll stop thinking about it”. Low and behold, in an ovulation kit I had there was 1 pregnancy test left.

I took it out and immediately covered it up. I was scared to see what it would say, because with Sav the pregnant line showed up right as the test went across. I took a deep breath and took off the paper covering it and there it was. A very solid line.

Yep! That was my reaction too!

Starting to cry, I realized I didn’t plan this through at all. I paced for a second trying to figure out how I was going to tell J. Should I wait? Should I just tell him now? I was a mess! I decided to just do it the same as I did our first pregnancy, shaking him awake and showing him the test.

His response was a little better this time (he said about time for sav haha). And said “You’re pregnant!?” I felt so scared, immediately thinking Sav was no longer going to be the only child and worried about the future. I am so overjoyed, because this is what we wanted. I feel like the age gap is perfect (going to be about 26 months apart) and we wanted them to be close in age.

Pregnancy Symptoms

Remember how I mentioned I felt kind of sick the night before? Well, a few hours after finding out I was indeed pregnant I got my first morning sickness moment. I was so scared this was going to be the new daily thing, but thankfully I only had one more episode of it and rest of the first trimester was just feeling nauseous.

The major symptom I’ve had otherwise, has been I couldn’t eat any beef. Random, I know. But the thought of raw beef, or even cooked, grossed me out. If you know me, you know I was craving beef and broccoli on a weekly basis haha! I could only really handle eating chicken, beans, cheese, and anything bland. I ate a lot of chicken and dumplings because that was the only thing that sounded good.

After exclusively pumping for a year with Sav, my chest took a major toll. About 10 weeks, they started coming back and had soreness accompanying. I’ve also been getting headaches every now and then, and if I don’t have a nap I am barely surviving by the time it hits 6. We are nearing the end of the first trimester, so I’m hoping I’ll get some energy back!

12 Week Doctor Appointment

I was in Texas for the majority of this time, so we weren’t able to schedule with our doctor until 12 weeks. I am kind of thankful, because it helped time fly and the baby is obviously bigger and easy to see.

We met with the same midwife I did last pregnancy, and she asked a few questions then had me lay down. She felt where the baby was right away (I’m telling y’all, this baby is loud and proud and wants to be seen!). She turned on the ultrasound and this babe was moving around like crazy! Heartbeat was 150 so I feel like that makes the gender prediction difficult haha.

She then asked if we would like to do the genetics blood test, and we opted in for it again. She also shared it does reveal the gender too, so that’ll be exciting to find out in two weeks. We planned to do a 14 week gender prediction ultrasound like last time, so now we may skip that since it’s about the same time we get this back.

That is about it update wise! Nausea is going away, bump is out to play… I feel so excited to have this secret out so I can have you all along this journey with us!
