Baby Stratton Baby Shower: Nautical Themed

Long time, no blog! We have been gone a lot and it left little chance for me to update the blog. BUT, I am back with the reason why I was absent, so hopefully all is forgiven. This weekend we made our way down to Texas to have our (second) baby shower! My mom planned the entire thing, went all out, and we had a great time. Her baby shower theme was nautical, which proved to be a challenge to make it girly and not all blues. My mom pretty much nailed it. Location and Food
The shower was held at a hotel, which happens to be the same one we had my 16th birthday in, so it was cool to make more memories there! We started setting up in the afternoon, and my mom had everything nautical themed in some way. We had different finger foods like sandwiches, fruit, and cheese, and my mom got creative with displaying them! She combined gold fish and potato chips to be “fish and chips”, cut a bell pepper to be an octopus, and added eyes to the chicken sandwiches to look like crabs, and added bobbers to the drink to float on the top and make it look like the ocean.

Guest Book
We also have a signature “guest book” style where people sign an object, instead of a guest book. My mom found this cute navy anchor and had markers ready for guests to sign their names, so this anchor can later be displayed up in her room! It’s such a cute idea and I love that it’s displayed instead of lost and packed away in a book somewhere. 

Desserts
The cake was my absolute favorite and I LOVE how it turned out!!! We also added nautical themed pink and blue cupcake toppers and displayed them around the cake. 

Shower Games
Overall we had an amazing time at the party and we got to see everyone! I decided to do a co-ed baby shower, which isn’t very traditional, but I wanted my husband and my dad to be included, and also have it family focused since we don’t get to see them often. My grandpa told us that this is the first baby shower he’s ever been to, so there’s a first time for everything haha! We played games that everyone could participate in.
We played a pass the pacifier,  where you use straws in your mouth to pass the pacifier within your group. It was such a challenge! 
You then put a balloon in your shirt and a ping pong ball between your legs. You have to waddle over to a jar to drop the ping pong in it and not drop it. I didn’t participate in this one, but it was hilarious to watch my friends and family waddle.
A dad game was next, where dad’s had to write down what excuses they had for not changing the diaper. My husband then read them out loud and it was so comical to hear what the dad’s came up with, and probably have used!

Before the party, my mom had me measure my belly with a string to see how big I am. The guests later had to cut a string to guess how big they thought I was and there were several that were so close to being accurate and it was such a simple, but fun party game.
